ZIP CURTAIN SYSTEMS

1) Definition

ZIP curtain; It is an outdoor/semi-outdoor curtain solution where the fabric is locked to special guide rails on both sides with a zipper-like wick system, providing wind and light control. System; It consists of cassette (box), side ZIP rails, weight profile, tubular motor and selected fabric.

2) Main Benefits

  • Wind resistance:Thanks to the side guides, the fabric surface remains stable and oscillation and “winging” are minimized.

  • Light and heat management:Glare control, UV reduction and indoor thermal comfort.

  • Privacy and visibility:Visibility from inside is managed while daytime visibility is maintained with screen fabrics of different apertures.

  • Pest/dust barrier:Fabric-rail integrity reduces gaps.

  • Automation compatibility:Remote control, wall button, wind-solar sensor, building automation integration (relay, KNX/Modbus interface).

  • Aesthetic integration:Minimal cassette and rail profiles, RAL color options.

3) Components

  • Cassette/Box Profile:Aluminium, electrostatic powder coated; Protects fabric and shaft.

  • Side ZIP Rails:It locks the fabric with its special channel and wick structure; quiet and controlled movement.

  • Weight Profile:Lower cross member; Provides tension and smooth winding.

  • Tube Engine:220V AC (radio frequency or wired optional); Precise stopping points on models with encoder.

  • Fabric Types:

    • Screen (sunshading) – 1%, 3%, 5% clarity:Glare and heat gain control; different permeabilities depending on external view.

    • Blackout:Areas that require light impermeability.

    • Combinations with transparent PVC windows:Protection from wind and precipitation while preserving visibility (cold hardening limits of PVC must be taken into account).

  • Sensors:Wind, sun, rain sensors; Safe automatic positioning.

4) Technical Parameters (reference ranges)

Values may vary depending on product family, fabric type and project.

  • Max. width:3.5–5.0m

  • Max. height:3.0–3.5m

  • Wind class:EN 13561 Class 2–3 range (depending on model/fabric)

  • Fabric weight:360–520 g/m² (screen), 600–850 g/m² (PVC)

  • Profile surface:Powder coated, anodized or special RAL options

  • Control options:RF remote control, wall button, relay trigger, smart home/building automation

5) Application Areas

  • Pergola/bioclimatic ceiling perimeter closures

  • Terraces and balconies

  • Cafe-restaurant facades, winter gardens

  • Office facades and meeting areas (glare/privacy)

  • Shop windows and showrooms (UV and temperature control)

6) Assembly and Project Planning Principles

  • Infrastructure and surface preparation:The surfaces on which the rails will be mounted must be flat, rigid and level. If necessary, the surface is prepared with an aluminum sub-carcass/steel profile.

  • Clearance control:In wide spans (≥4 m), tougher fabric, more powerful motor or modular partition is recommended instead of screen.

  • Electrical supply:Line with appropriate cross-section for each module; accessible service space for engine and control unit.

  • Water drainage and sealing:Detailing of bottom and side connections against rain water in outdoor applications.

  • Safety and use:Engine limit settings, protection in case of stress; child safety and access rules.

7) Operation, Maintenance and Warranty

  • Periodic maintenance:Cleaning of rail channels, fabric surface control, review of engine limits at least once a year.

  • Cleaning:Neutral detergent and soft brush for screen fabrics; Solvents and corrosive materials should not be used.

  • Guarantee:2–5 year warranty for profile, motor and fabric, depending on manufacturer specifications (clarified according to product group).

  • Spare parts and service:Lead times and stock management are planned for the engine, control, fabric and roving.

8) Fabric and Color Selection Guide

  • Southern facades:1%–%3 aperture screen; It reduces heat gain and cuts glare.

  • North/East/West:More balanced daylight with 3%–5% clarity.

  • Privacy priority areas:Lower clearance or blackout.

  • Colour:Light tones reflect heat; Dark tones cut glare better and strengthen external visibility.

9) Checklist for Procurement and Offer Dossier

  1. Clear opening dimensions (width × height) and quantities

  2. Mounting surface (concrete/steel/aluminum/wood) and required subframe

  3. Fabric type and openness ratio (screen/blackout/PVC)

  4. Profile and accessory colors (RAL)

  5. Motor type (RF/wired), number of controls, sensor requirement

  6. Power lines and control panel location

  7. Warranty, service and SLA expectations

  8. Application schedule and delivery conditions
